Meet the team behind the research and trials.
Ying Yuan started her research career at Temple University in 2008. The community health research offered her opportunities to collaborate with government agencies, academia, the pharmaceutical industry, nonprofit advocating organizations, and community organizations in most disease areas. In 2011, she moved to the Baltimore area to start clinical research. She worked as a clinical research coordinator at Johns Hopkins, Leidos, and then as the manager at the Center for Cardiovascular Research at White Oak Medical Center.
Ying started Jadestone Clinical Research, seeing the gap of clinical research opportunities and a big population who need new and alternative therapies in the DC, MD, and VA area. Because of her background of collaboration, and experience in clinical research in most disease areas, Jadestone has been impressing the study sponsors with fast enrolling and good data quality.
Investigator
Dr. Jin is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center in 2019. He served as the Medical Director of Patient First Urgent Care in Chantilly, Virginia. He received the Medical Education Award in 2019 and Resident Award in 2018 from ANACP and won first place in the Poster Presentation Competition at the 4th Annual Resident Research Day in 2018. Dr. Jin is a member of Lifestyle Medicine since 2018 and of the Alliance of North American Chinese Physicians (ANACP) since 2018.
Dr. Jin’s interest and involvement in research started when he was a fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Since then, he has had multiple publications in genetics and ophthalmology. During the pandemic, Dr. Jin has been actively participating in COVID19 studies, being the investigator for NIH ACTIV-4B, Merck Monulpiravir trials, Activ-6.
Research Pharmacist
Jenny is a clinical research pharmacist for Jadestone stationed at the Adventist Healthcare White Oak Medical Center. Jenny also oversees research pharmacy at Jadestone outpatient clinic. Jenny received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Ohio State University (go bucks!). Jenny is very passionate about clinical research and hopes to apply her knowledge to a diversity of projects addressing local and global challenges. In her free time, Jenny enjoys family walks and puzzle nights with her husband and kids.
Regulatory Advisor
Raymond is a pharms R&D professional with over 25 years of experience working for CROs (IQVIA, PPD) and pharmaceutical companies such Sanofi and Bristol Myers Squibb. In 2016 Raymond made to switch the world of small biotech where he was the director of clinical program management at Kolon Tissuegene. He later was the VP, Clinical operations at OncoImmune where he headed the clinical operations department and managed the company acquisition by Merck. Raymond remained the VP of clinical operations at OncoC4, the OncoImmune’s spin out until June 2023. Raymond is now the managing director at ClinExpert, a boutique consulting firm that specializes in the promotion of clinical research in minority populations. ClinExpert also provides consulting services to Biotech VCs.
Raymond received a BS in Biochemistry from Rider University, a master’s degree in health sciences from George Washington University and an MBA from the SC Johnson School of Management at Cornell University. Raymond is also an adjunct professor Clinical Research Administration at the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Dr. Cohen graduated from The State University of New York at Binghamton, where he was an EMT as well as a patient care assistant at one of the local hospitals. He obtained his medical degree from The State University of New York at Downstate College of Medicine in 2007, and then went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. He has been working as a hospitalist since 2010 and joined USACS when they introduced their integrated acute care model to Adventist Healthcare, Shady Grove Medical Center. He has also been a Physician Advisor since 2013, and assumed this role for Shady Grove Medical Center, as well as White Oak Medical Center, in July of 2020. Prior to May of 2020, Dr. Cohen received awards at several conferences for clinical vignettes and posters, as well as for his work as a Medical Director of a Geographic unit where he introduced a model of multidisciplinary rounding.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Cohen switched gears and began to focus on the management of COVID-19. This led to his managing the trial with convalescent plasma at Shady Grove, followed by an investigator in the CD24fc trial and PhaseBio-VANGARD at both Shady Grove and White Oak Medical Center. He actively participated in the NIH’s trial for Fostamatinib, providing almost a quarter of all of their participants. Since then, he has continued his involvement with COVID-19 research, serving as the PI for 5 different clinical trials focusing on different aspects of COVID-19 management. He has also been an active investigator for cardiovascular studies.
Investigator
Dr. Kathryn Ratanavanich is a nephrologist at Montgomery Renal Associates, PC, and Medical Director of Nephrology at Medstar Montgomery Medical Center and Davita Dialysis Units. She received her medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Dr. Ratanavanich completed her residency and nephrology fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital, and is a member of the American Society of Nephrology. She is board certified in Nephrology and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Ratanavanich’s interest in research commenced when she was a recipient of a prestigious Howard Hughes Undergraduate Fellowship program where she studied the surface proteins of salivary glands for sites of sporozoite attachment. She has since conducted research in the epidemiology of hemodialysis in bloodstream infections, and anemia in renal transplant recipients. She is currently an investigator at Jadestone.
Office Manager, Regulatory Specialist, Clinical Research Coordinator
Ian Sankar is the office manager and regulatory specialist at Jadestone. He graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2014 with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Ian has more than 10 years of hospital and clinical experience as well as 4 + years of clinical research experience from the NIH, Adventist Healthcare and Jadestone Clinical Research.
Clinical Research Coordinator
Lisa Nguyen is a clinical research coordinator at Jadestone. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, in 2020 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and was a pre-PA student. Lisa earned her nursing assistant certificate in 2022 and worked alongside with physicians and physician assistants providing patient care as a medical assistant at an internal medicine practice in Olney, MD.
